I Am In To Vintage

I do not know whether it is the economy or my grandmother’s influence via some of her salt and pepper shakers around me that is causing this recent hard shift back to basics and a real sense of tradition, but I like it! I am so enjoying making this quilt and revisiting my childhood at the same time.

I wish I could show you more of what I am working on, but it is for the book and I must maintain professional respect for my publisher and not reveal too much. There are so many things I want to share! This quilt is an absolute joy and so much fun to work on.

The threads you saw all lined up in the photos from yesterday are for an embroidered design section on the quilt that I designed inspired by the vintage table linens some of us grew up with. Isn’t it amazing how much of a pleasurable impact these had on us without really knowing it at the time?

I can see why our quilting ancestors received so much pleasure from simple needle and thread and the company of friends over a quilting frame. Our fancy machines that mechanically spit out perfection just don’t emote that same warmth and soul do they? <sigh>

  1. TEASE !!!!!!!!!!!

I love the old fashioned things too. Can’t help but being drawn back in time . I think it has to do with the comfort , we feel , when we reach back to the good old days !!
I have one set of salt shakers from my grandmother that sits on my stove ,and brings me back to a time when life (at least for me ) was so uncomplicated. The old style quilts do the same when I see them . The machines give me the feeling of what can be mastered in a very different way . I’m glad we get to have and do both .

I can’t wait to see your book !

  2. I really hate not being able to show this as I am working on it! It truly is a fun quilt to make. So be prepared, there still may be a few teases to come. LOL
