Moving On and Miss Jenna’s Orange

So the bad week has concluded and is now in the past.  Hurray!  Thanks everyone for the smiles and comfort even though my troubles, put into proper perspective, were pitifully not much.  My finger is almost completely back to normal and I am done with the monotony of trimming the trapunto.  If this quilt wasn’t so special to me, I would never go through that step!

The quilt top part of the process is DONE–finito!!!!  I have spent the last couple of days ironing yards of fabric for the backing and layering the quilt all together in preparation for the quilting stage. I am ready to see the quilt come to life as texture is slowly added with the quilting.  I think it is much like watching a cake bake in the oven.  To watch the transformation to its final form is fascinating and magical as it happens right before my eyes. It is the texture that I think attracts me so much to quilts, as long as they aren’t quilted within an inch of their life that is. Then it tends to be all for naught because they resemble and feel more like a canvas than a quilt. However, that is my personal opinion–others may vary.  Anyway………the fun begins this week as my caterpillar turns into a butterfly.

Miss Jenna

Jenna always seems to get very interested in quilting again at this stage of my process and she suddenly becomes inspired to play with fabric. She raided my stash to create her own idea with an Applique Mock-Up–yeah!  For an eleven year old, whoops she turned 12 last week,  I was impressed with her results.  She was excited about her accomplishment and asked me if I would share it with you all here on my blog.

<drum roll>  presenting Jenna’s Orange inspired by a can of Orange Crush soda pop (she is a tween-er after all):

Now what could make me happier than my daughter wanting to play with fabric??   Color me happy.  I think this week is going to start out very well indeed.

Jenna, you have an artist’s eye! Your orange composition is striking; I would be proud to call it my own. You must take after your mom.

Sandra, glad to hear you have recovered and are again working on your quilt. Can’t wait to see a photo of the finished project!

  5. Marion Mullen says:

Miss Jenna – What a wonderful quilt! The orange looks good enough to eat! Keep up the good work!
