Applique Withdrawal

Is it possible to be addicted to hand applique where you can actually suffer withdrawal symptoms from not stitching for a relatively long period of time?

Well folks, I think I am!  I have been so cranky (ask my family) and I swear I am getting the shakes from not doing any hand applique from trying to finish the machine quilting on this current quilt.  Not only that, the other night I had a nightmare that every quilt in quilt shows were now painted and I woke up in a panic and sweat!

The “Tea” quilt quilting should be done today or tomorrow and then blocked, and done.  I will document the techniques I used with pictures and illustrations for the book, but I can also get back to my pet project, the Margarita Quilt.  That should make me transform from an unbearable ogre into my princess self and the world be right again.  My family will be oh so happy too.

  1. It is totally possible to be addicted to hand applique and have withdrawal! I’ve suffered it myself, so I know exactly what you’re talking about! Hope you get back at it and recover quickly.

  2. Aaaaah! I’ve had that same nightmare! Though there were a few that weren’t painted, and they were huge pieced portraits, but falling apart because they weren’t stitched together. It took three coffees to get over it!

In real life I went to a small exhibition last weekend and one quilt, about 60inches square cream wholecloth, had a design which had been trapunto-ed (is that a word?) and the rest was quilted one eigth of an inch apart all over. All by hand!

Aaaaaah! (This is a different sounding one to the one which started this comment!)

  3. Oh Judy you had me laughing! That nightmare I had took me awhile to shake off as not being real. It was really scary!

I would have LOVED to see that quilt you described, it sounds absolutely breathtaking.

  4. Phew, thanks Shelly it is nice to know it truly is an affliction and I am not alone.

I’m anxious to start another soon as I near the end of the one I’m working on and if I can’t get one going before I finish , it seems like all is wrong in my world .
