The Quilted Teapot & Scale

Sara asked if I would show a size reference for the scale of the quilted teapot from the last post.  This photo shows a ruler in inches for a reference point.  (The teapot is trapunto’d)

If I could show you the complete quilt, you would see how scale plays a very important role in how the teapot quilt design marries with the applique design when it comes to scale and relationship.  The teapot is scaled appropriately to the other elements of the applique design.  In other words, think of the quilting motifs just as you would the applique elements in terms of size relationship.  The background fill is always the smaller bit to make the motifs stand out. Don’t go crazy with a variety of them when it comes to an applique quilt.   Pretty please with sugar on top?

  1. Okay. NOW I have to tell you that I think you are a complete and utter QUILT TEASE!! With all the little bits and pieces of your photographs (is THAT what you mean by Sandra’s SNIPPETS?!) that you have been showing, I get so… well… excited, and anxious, and can’t wait for the next one. (Taking a deep breath…) WHEN, oh, when, will you finally unveil the finished piece?! At the risk of sounding like a spoiled five year old, I WANT IT NOW!!!

I am SO a Sandra wannabe, but haven’t gotten up the nerve to actually take an applique class yet. I have to remedy that, I think. Otherwise, how, on earth, will I ever be able to sign up for the Asilomar class?!

Anxiously awaiting a photo of THE WHOLE THING! And now, going to take a cold shower… ME

  2. LOTS of sugar on top!
There are so many filler designs out there I am sure some people want to use them all up ….. in one quilt! Maybe even every quilt.

  3. Quilt Tease–just what I was thinking! But eventually the book will be published, and hopefully the quilt will be displayed in quilt shows… patience, patience.

  4. Michele you crack me up.

Go take a beginning applique class and just get started. I think it is fair to say that there are a lot of us that will support your unfinished efforts! LOL

Just start learning with a small block NOT a big quilt freeing yourself to make mistakes. It is the mistakes that we learn from, not perfection.

  5. Judy I burst out laughing when I read this. I think this applies to all of those embellishments out there too.
    ;-)

  6. Frances– eventually the book will be published in 2010– I promise!

I am still going back and forth over entering shows with any more quilts.

  7. Your quilts are such a privilege to behold; if not in quilt shows, how will your quilting admirers have an opportunity to see your amazing work up close and in person (photos are no substitute for actually seeing the real thing)?

  8. Oh yes, remember, many of us are looking forward to those Sandra Leichner instructional DVDs!! :-)

  9. Sandra, I see you are “tweeting” (is that the word)– but I’ve only noticed two “tweets” because I don’t usually think to look for them. Are they archived, so that one may read previous “tweets”? What have I missed in your “tweets”?

  10. I thought Tweets would be useful as “post-it” notes on the blog so no one would think I dropped off the face of the earth when I hadn’t posted anything new. LOL

You have to sign up on Twitter and then choose me as a favorite and you can see all of my archived Tweets. I read where Twitter might be sending ads to members as a way of generating income and if that happens….I am outa there!

    I HATE SPAM!
