More Fabric Yummy-ness

It is official……I have finished the book’s manuscript and I will actually be turning it in early (just a little bit).  I think I am giving them enough for four books so I have no idea how it will be edited down to its final book form.  But it is done!  Hoo-rah.

Now you know I should be starting back in on my Margarita quilt, but darn it, Jason’s pumpkin quilt is calling me in a very strong way.  So today I will play.  I think I deserve it.  ;-)

When I took a break from getting everything ready to mail, I started pulling more fabric possibilities from my shelves.  Aren’t these lucious for fall foliage?  I could eat them up.  Are you starting to get the picture here I am easily distracted?

One of the things I seriously want to point out is how these batiks have nice color variations, just like fall leaves would, and yet not too strong of a pattern that embroidery detail would be a lost cause on them.  This is one of the reasons I like batiks so much.  Lots of color and no strong pattern so I know I have a perfect “background” wash for the embroidery detail.  I do not use batiks that have stamped patterns on them.   They do not work well with details for the most part and I am looking for a watercolor look in the fabric.

Now just imagine if these fabrics were solid, or cutesy, or heavily patterned.  Can you see how the whole look of the design would be different?  flat?  whimsical?  utilitarian?  See how your eyes have just taught you another lesson in color and value and how it affects depth? congratulations!  Pat yourself on the back.

Speaking of Jason…..  He just bought another Lionel Christmas Train and unfortunately for me it has a “musical boxcar” with no volume control.  It only came with “very loud”.  My motherly love is being severely tested right now.

Have a good weekend and don’t forget to play with your fabrics.

  1. PRETTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

  2. Congratulations on the book and, for sure, you deserve to work on something fun! Those fabrics are gorgeous.

  3. Your twitter statement is making me curious . What’s up ?
    The fabrics are gorgeous.

  4. Sara,

I saw and advertisement while cruising the web and it was advertising “quilted projects” so when I looked at the pics, there was NO quilting at all, just some small rectangles of fabric stuck together. Huh? Then it would be a craft project then right?

These things just annoy me to no end, but that’s just me.

  5. Thanks Vicki! What is it about fabric that makes grown women swoon? LOL

  6. Boop, aren’t they though? I could almost eat them. :-D

  7. What a great selection – looking at your stash makes me realize how limited my fall stash is. I am supposed to be making some fabric pumpkins, and I don’t think I have the right fabrics for them…. hmmm, it’s time to go shopping! :)

  8. Talk about eye candy and just in time for trick or treat. I can’t wait to buy your book and I’m totally excited about seeing what you put together for Jason’s pumpkin quilt. Sitting with anxious dripping all over me!

  9. Eva,

I am anxious to see what they do with the book too. I gave them so much info that it probably would make three books!

I am getting soooooo excited at the progress of the design for Jason’s quilt. I think it is going to possibly be my Magnum Opus.

For those of you waiting on the Margarita quilt, you might have to wait a bit longer. My disciplined side is saying I should finish it, but my creative free spirited side is telling me to go with Jason’s quilt. I never was very disciplined. ;-)

  10. Ivory Spring, Shopping is ALWAYS good when it comes to fabric. wha ha ha ha.
