Signing off for the Holidays & A Recipe

Jasons_xmas_card

Time to bake cookies and do all of the traditional family rituals for the rest of the week.  Jason is getting very anxious to get his cookies made for Santa.  The kid’s internal calendar and clock doesn’t miss a beat.  I want to thank all of you for your tremendous support!  I can’t begin to express what a difference it has made in my own enthusiasm for quilting again.  Small gestures can make an enormous difference.  Thank you!

Jason and I would like to share our family recipe for his Santa cookies:

 cndy grld

Jason’s Favorite Peanut Butter Cookies

1 cup salted butter softened
1¼ cups white granulated sugar
1¼ cups dark brown sugar packed
3 large eggs
1 cup creamy peanut butter
2 tsp. pure vanilla extract (the real stuff)
2½ cups all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. salt

Preheat the oven to 375°

Blend sugars together with an electric mixer on medium speed.  Add butter and mix to form a grainy paste.  Add eggs blending in one at a time.  Add peanut butter and vanilla and mix until light and fluffy.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt.  Add flour mixture to peanut butter mixture and mix at low speed until just mixed.

Using a small cookie scoop, drop balls of dough onto a cookie sheet.  With a wet fork, gently press a crisscross pattern on the top of the cookies.

Tip: in order to keep the dough from sticking to the fork, dip the fork in water after each cookie is flattened.

Bake 10-11 minutes or until cookies are slightly brown.  Don’t over cook and immediately transfer the cookies to a cool surface with a spatula.

Wishing you the best for the new year,

siggy

Have a very merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year! I would like to thank you, too. All you have done for every appliquer is amazing! I am so grateful I took an applique class with someone I had never heard of. I wanted to go to Quilter’s Escape with friends. I ended up with one of the best teachers I have ever experienced and a new friend! I look forward to Empty Spools! Believe me, I am planning on signing up and looking forward to it! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  8. Wow, I go away for a little while and you all leave such humbling and touching comments. I have been playing on some great stuff (The brain won’t shut off even though I am trying to play outside the sewing room!) I will share all when the calendar turns to 2010. I know, I am being a tease! You will love it –I promise.

  9. Dearest Sandra – Thank you for being so wonderful and open. Until I found your blog (thanks to Diane G.) I thought I was the only applique geek out there – especially all handwork with machine quilting. You have truly inspired me to do my own thing and trust my own instinct. I am re-energized each time I read your blog.

Merry Christmas and Happy, Healthy New Year! I wish you and yours all the best for 2010 (can’t wait for your book).

    Best stitches,
    Mercy
