This is Spooky!

by Sandra | February 4th, 2010

Look what came in my mailbox yesterday.  I stopped dead in my tracks and my jaw dropped when I saw this catalog cover.  Whoa!  I guess great minds think (design) alike huh?  LOL.

There is a duvet cover that is an allover branch and bird repeat pattern and these pillows pull from that.  Seen in its entirety, the design is not that similar really.  I wouldn’t have looked twice.  The color palette matches my living room, which lets me know I don’t have to repaint for awhile!

It is very spooky when this serendipity happens.  I like my bird design and I like the one in the catalog too.   I had been thinking this would make a good pillow and now I know I was right.  It does!

Nope I haven’t quilted this yet due to a lot of busy work that takes me into the late evenings.  Maybe I will get to it today.  I am feeling a bit overwhelmed by my task list.

  1. Yours is so much nicer! Good idea to photograph and post though. It shows that yours was done before the catalog was received. I do like your design much, much better.

  2. Eva,

Of course I like mine better too, but I am biased. :-) Actually if you see the duvet cover, it has a yellow tone. Birds on branches are nothing new (ya think?), so it is just one of those serendipitous things that happens.

  3. Sandra, I got my catalog last week and I did even connect it to your birds. Theirs is flat while yours looks alive and has depth. I wonder if they’re TRYING to copy you?! If they come out with a pumpkin or Egyptian woman we know the truth!!!

Rest assured, they did not copy me at all, the similarities are just a coincidence. They had to have had this in the design and manufacture “process” for awhile so there are no copyright issues whatsoever.

But hey, thanks for supporting me! :-D

Sandra, I prefer your wren, your design is beautiful. Your wren has so much personality. Can’t wait to see it quilted.

  6. Well Denise, your wish is my command. I shall post the preliminary quilted version (unblocked and askew for your viewing pleasure). ;-)
