I scored big. It does help to have a mom who sews and likes to have the latest and greatest, which leaves me the benefactor of her “no longer wanted or needed”. I am the owner of a fabulous new Bernina serger that has only been used once I think. I won’t go into the long story behind this, but I am absolutely giddy to have a serger again. Mine is really old and the manual disappeared. It was lost in the last of those many corporate moves we had to make.

Those of you who have hard to thread sergers know exactly the horror I am talking about when it comes to threading a serger. This and no manual? Impossible.
So now I have this spanking new serger to play with, once I figure out how to thread it that is. Unfortunately, this serger is not one of the “easy to thread” variety, which is one of the reasons my mom passed it on to me and she has a new Babylock serger with all of the bells and whistles and easy threading system. I don’t care, I have a new serger and the price was right!

This threading system is officially....... SCARY!
I am so glad I am the only one of three girls who still sews! Thanks Mom.
We bought Jenna a lounging chair for her “Paris” boudoir re-do and I am going to make a washable matching slipcover now that I have a serger again.

COOOOOL ! I had a serger for a day , LOL ! yes a hard to thread and no manual ! I thought why do people use these, LOL !
I now have freinds with them and I’m so jealous ! : P
Have fun !
Once you have downloaded a manual and gotten it threaded correctly, I hope you will never unthread it!
When you change color, you can simply tie on the new ones with a weaver’s knot and pull them carefully and slowly through by hand.
Never leave a serger without thread in it is my best advice.
I am green with envy, my serger is about 18 years old, almost antique! I agree, never leave it unthreaded! Two acquisitions before I retire will be a new sewing machine, and a new serger. Lucky you!
Chris,
Funny thing. I spent the WHOLE day yesterday trying to get the new one threaded and running. I can thread it blind folded and know the manual by heart, and yet? Still is not stitching.
So I thought, “why not try and thread the old one and see what I am doing wrong or compare since it is a Bernina serger too?”. Within a half an hour, I had the old one threaded and purring along. The new one? Went to bed frustrated and then dreamt of the threading sequences all night.
Even my night time subconcious had no other ideas by morning. I think I shall carry it to my dealer and beg assistance if mom’s visit today can’t get it figured out.
Boop, I always used mine for Home Dec projects. Then the lost manual after the last move and a four year old who thought she could thread it better. I just put it away too frustrated.
I am determined to figure this out!
Diane,
I had left it threaded, but unfortunately a four year old thought she needed to re-thread it better while mommy was busy.
At least now I know how to thread it blindfolded after yesterday!
In 2003, I bought a Babylock, complete with what I call the WHOOSH! threading system and loved it! BUT, it’s been about 5 years since I last used it and even when I know it would be a boon, I end up not using it because I don’t want to take the time to re-remember how! I should probably take a class again…
ROFL! Me too for everything you have all posted. I have a Bernina serger that is about 12 years old and I have only ever used it for serging the edges of my applique backgrounds. When a thread runs low I tie the end to a new spool and pull it through so it stays threaded. No one is allowed to touch it because if it unthreads I have to take it to my dealer to re-thread. Sometimes I’m so embarrassed I just say I’m bringing it in for regular maintenance! How pitiful am I?
BTW – Sandra – your patterns arrived yesterday. Gorgeous patterns and beautiful presentation! Thank you!
Best stitches!
Mercy
Cool toy – like you, I am intimidated by threading a serger!!
Ivory Spring,
I was until I spent two whole days trying to figure it out. You would be so impressed at how quickly I can thread that thing now!
