Something New to Play With

by Sandra | September 30th, 2011

I wonder if anyone else salivates over thread the way I do.  I know I have an obsession with fabric, but my thread obsession tops that. Sadly it is scary true.

So when I see a thread I don’t have?  I must own it.  I love to experiment and see what kind of interesting things I can do with threads.  What kind of texture? what kind of color play with the fabric? how will it behave? etc.,

One thing wonderful about the big world wide web is that I can obtain almost anything my little heart desires in any far off corner of the world and have it sent to me in a small town or large. Of course this also means it is really really difficult to put the brakes on my thread lust and prevent gorging myself on it.  I sheepishly admit, I have no self control.

For a long long time I have wanted to try out the flat silk Japanese embroidery thread.  I finally found a source and I now have it to fondle (protectively covered of course) for a little while before I try it out in the needle and on fabric.  Such luscious, decadent and elegant thread.  Sigh.

The one good thing about pigging out on thread? no calories.  This is how I justify each and every purchase and that works for me!

Sandra, you tease! Tell us more about the thread and where we can obtain it! It looks divine.

  2. No calories, huh? That totally works for me!

I do agree with Frences, we need to know where to get it.

Wow, that is yummy looking. Can’t wait to see what you whip up with it. Happy Stitching

  4. I found the thread through the Japanese Embroidery Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Sounds odd I know, but it is a very traditional Japanese technique school for Japanese Embroidery. There is no color key unless you want to buy the really expensive chart. Each spool is $7.00 and I will warn you, you are charged like a hotel. In other words, there is a double charge to your account until the actual charge goes through and then the second temporary charge drops off.

  5. you must be skinny , LOL ! if you get thread instead of food , LOL .

Looks interesting. I wonder does it stay flat after pulling it thru the fabric ? I know it is a silly question , but that is what I was wondering : )
