Thought I went away on you huh? Hmmm, maybe I did in a way. The response to the Titmouse and the other Naturalist’s Notebook blocks has been through the roof–still! Backorders have shipped and massive re-prints are back from the printers.
So what does one write about when all you see is the inside of one room and the much anticipated UPS/Fed-Ex/mailman at the front door delivering more supplies for days on end?
Do you really want to hear about how well my rotary cutter is holding up? or maybe that I have discovered my favorite ruler for cutting kits? Somehow I don’t think these are the most mind blowing subjects weighing heavy on your minds.

Summer has finally arrived (I think) and my oldest son Andrew graduated from high school. I am so proud of him and he exceeded on his science exams. Life has a way of moving too fast sometimes. It seems just like yesterday I was teaching him shapes using quilting. He used to keep me company in my sewing room.
All my kids have grown up in the sewing room and they still gravitate there for some alone time with mom. Most families congregate in the kitchen, at my house, it is the sewing room.
Right now, my sewing room is so chaotic and messy from crazy production that it is difficult to take two steps together without having to hop over something. I need to get it back in order soon since the APWQ show will be here before I know it and I have to prep for a class I am teaching there.
A side note to end on…AQS now has registration open for the Des Moines show and I will there all week! For those of you who have wanted to take a class and the west coast has been too far to travel from the midewest and east coast, this is one of a couple of opportunities.
Back to my room for more work!

My Titmouse block and kit etc. has arrived and oh, how beautiful, beautiful, beautiful it is. Do you get the feeling that I really like it!!!!. Have already ordered the Aurifil thread that is missing from my stash and am getting ready to order the Cosmos from the store in the Bay Area. Will you be getting the Superior silks and the YLI for the Spider’s web? Still have some more embroidery to do on the Goldfinch and haven’t even started the Purple Finch, other than pulling some fabrics, but the Titmouse calls to me.
You must be very proud of Andrew. What are his plans now?
Hope that you are able to get a little bit of rest and have fun with the kids.
Hi Sandra – it’s always so great to turn on the computer and find an update from you. It”s my birthday today and I felt like I’d received a special bouquet – your site is always so pretty. I finished my wren and am very pleased with it. I added a second row of stem stitch to my leaf veins in a deep red and it gives an autumn glow to the piece – a nice surprise! Cheers and good luck with all that packaging. Val
I knew you were out there somewhere! lol I thought maybe you were working your fingers to the bone on your son’s quilt. You know, if you did want to talk about your rotary cutter, we’d read with baited breath.
Sandra,
No, don’t need toknow that much detail … except the ruler bit! I know what I like, but interested to know what others like.

Hi Sandra, Love the Titmouse block and kit got mine on Friday. Those petals will be a challenge but I’m willing to try. Will you be teaching at Houston this year? Some of your classes in Iowa are using your patterns that I already have, two of the birds and the teapot. Can a student bring those if they sign up for the class, or get a different pattern from you at the class?
Beth, you can use what you have already purchased for those classes.
I will not be teaching at Houston but I will be there playing with everyone else!
Just remember this mantra: One piece at a time, one piece at a time……;-)
Brenda, he is going on to college. He excelled at Science but is interested in Accounting. Go figure.
Hey, everyone needs a good accountant. And numbers are science. Maybe he will be the next Steve Jobs.
Love the new block. I have to live with them a while to get comfortable with the beauty of them. Gives me the shivvers.

I was searching for a drawing of a wren and stumbled on your web site and blog! You do amazing work. I wish I had found your patterns before I started the nature crazy quilt I am doing. I love your bird patterns!
I just found out registration for Des Moines is now open. Oh, which classes to take. I have 2 of yours picked out and am waiting till the morning to finish my registration. I’m so excited to be able to take a class from you!
I’m all signed up for your “Garden bird” and “Fuzzy Detail” classes. I’m so excited and am looking forward to learning from such an accomplished artist as yourself. Thank you for coming to IOWA!!!
