I have been burning up the computer completing as much of my design work (illustration) for as many of the 2013 projects as I can.
The Naturalist’s Notebook Center Block is the workshop project for Asilomar 2013 in May. I need to get a handle on what is needed so I can pass that along to each of you who are signed up.

Since I am typing this in the midst of a severe wind storm and it is blowing scary right now, so this post will be very brief.
We have sitting water due to non-stop rain storms since October and the trees that are meant to be settled into dry land are now in mucky, muddy, mushy, wet earth. I have my fingers crossed the roots have enough solid dirt to keep them upright firmly in the ground and not falling over like dominoes. I hate wind.
Back to the designing topic……
Just for fun, I colored in (quickly) the pattern illustration just to give a sense of what the middle block will look like.

I was asked to do Poppy Soliloquy as a pattern and as many of you know, I do not pattern my special quilts so this design is a new version based loosely on the original.
I think this will be much better and the pattern is being created to fit in nicely with the Naturalist’s Notebook quilt. (I am using Adobe Illustrator by the way for those who are curious).
The overall design is not quite complete and you can see my composition shapes where other components of the design will be placed as I finish it up.
Now? I am going to go and hide under the blankets until the wind goes away. They say Monday afternoon. I am writing this Sunday evening.
I would never make it in hurricane country.

This looks beautiful and I am anxious to see the finished product.
Must add – very upset about the horrendous tragedy in Conn. What will be ?
I hate the wind too, and I’m stuck in hurricane land of Florida! Just keep quilting and you’ll forget about the bad weather! I love the Poppy design just as much as the original!…beautiful!
Sandra,
I’ve been through a lot of hurricanes, but they lose a lot of their punch before they get to us, except Sandy of course.
How do you get such realistic results on the computer? Those poppies are so beautiful!
Hopefully, you’ll be able to poke your head out some time soon.
It’s awesome as well as comforting to get to see you in action. I learn so much, and always appreciate how generous you are with your time and expertise. Thanks.
I am hating the wind too. Google didn’t tell me it was suppose to be windy. I was suppose to go to a party last night, but when it was time to go I looked out and saw thick fog, living in the mountains I hate driving in that stuff so we stayed home then a few hours late the wind picked up and blew the fog away, but I am sure glad I was home! Your project looks very fun! Maybe someday I will be able to go to Asilomar, sounds like my kind of event!
Good morning… I hope your trees are still in place and the wind has died down. I, too, am not a fan of wind storms! Thanks for an early peek at the beautiful poppy block. I am looking forward to another class with you at Asilomar next year, and have been collecting fabrics for the poppies and background. It looks like I am on the right track… and as usual, cannot wait to start a new block! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Poppy Soliloquy is one of my favourite quilts. Love the new version and can’t wait to do it. Told myself that I would do the blocks as they were available but am so far behind that this isn.t going to happen. Like you, we have been having the wind and rain (buckets of it). Last night a power outage right in the middle of the repeat of Downton Abbey. Ah well, this is to be expected on the north coast of CA.
Hope that the weather is good so that you and yor family can have a very happy Christmas.

This is so beautiful, I love your poppy quilt and this is another masterpiece. So glad you are back sharing your truly original artistry. I cannot wait for the next block.
Brenda we always have the best intentions. No worries, you are amongst your kind. LOL
Jill, it will be love-ely to see you again at Asilomar! I love to see what you do with these blocks.
The trees are still upright and no large branches on the ground either. Phew.
Ferne, I hear you about the fog. Why is it when we have fun plans/events, the waether wants to come out and play nasty? We would love to see you at Asilomar! Summer camp for adult women!
Karen, it is people like you that make me want to share. XXOO
Thanks Sara! I still can not think of the Sandy Hook Conn. incident without tearing up. The world has gone mad.
Love this…and of course will be waiting to add it to our other blocks…again thank you for sharing.
Like so many in the world this last week my heart has been breaking and so hard to understand the happenings. Like many other I turn to my sewing room when I need to get my emotions under control…for some reason if I can make those pieces fit together or that little circle stay a circle I can make myself believe that all will be right in the world. It is my therapy…thank you for keeping projects for us to do and helping us know that there is so much good in the world but sometimes it is hard to see….Hope the holidays will be a time for you to enjoy your family and we will be ready to start new ideas and projects with the new year.
