Nuthatch Block Update

by Sandra | January 14th, 2013

Now that you all are now experts at circles……

I thought you would like to see the work as it stands now or at the time I am writing this. By the time I send this post out into the world, I will have progressed beyond this point.

I am LOVING this block. Then again, I love every block until the next one and then I crown a new favorite. The colors of the berries are vibrant and red is my favorite color. All of the berry fabrics have changed from my preliminary selection. I told you things change as I work!

I have never done so many “direct applique” circles before and I was amazed at how quickly they go when you do not have to “prep” them beforehand. This does make sense since all of the prep can take two to three times the amount of time.

The applique is just about finished and then I can start in on the embroidery which should not take too long. Hopefully, I will have it ready for you by mid-February at the latest.

Next up on deck….The center Poppy block. Normally, I would leave this until the last block, but since I was asked to teach it at Asilomar, the Poppy Center Block is jumping to the front of the line.

I have done a lot of thinking and I have decided that I will put Jason’s quilt aside until the Naturalist’s Notebook quilt is done. I would like to get the complete Naturalist’s Notebook quilt completed for all of you who have faithfully followed me with this project and then I will concentrate on Jason’s quilt with a clear conscience

  9. Sara Simon says:

Does this mean that Jason’s quilt will not be at Houston in 2013 ?

  10. Sara, unfortunately the answer is probably yes. Too many professional and family obligations that come first.

  11. Thanks for the approval and as always, the nice compliments. I always breathe a sigh of relief when you all approve! :-)

  12. Dot, right now the dots (highlights) are temporarily marked with my white marking pencil. I will go in and embroider them with sewing weight thread when I get to the embroidery part. Sometimes I use the white chalk pencil and follow the color pencil technique in the tutorial in tab at the top of the blog. However, there is one exception….after applying the colorless extender, the highlight chalk mark will almost disappear. Take the chalk pencil and go over the area again while the extender is still wet. Heat set and then it is permanent.
